(Florence, 13th of April 1519 - Castle of Blois, 5th of January 1589)

 

Caterina Maria Romola de’ Medici, known as Caterina de’ Medici, was the queen of France from 1547 to 1559 as spouse of Henry the II. A black legend surrounds her since ancient times, showing her as an austere person, attached to power and evil. But in time historians started to reassess her figure, today recognizing her role as one of the greatest queens of France of all times.
