CLARICE ORSINI

(Monterotondo, 1453 circa – Florence, 30th of July, 1488)

 

She was the wife of Lorenzo the Magnificent and mother of Pope Leo X. She was not very appreciated by the Florentines, being very religious and different from the open mentality of the Humanists. Lorenzo always preferred the Florentine Lucrezia Donati, to which he dedicated his poetry, but he had many children only with Clarice. The wedding between Lorenzo and Clarice is reenacted every 8 years at Monterotondo during the manifestation Fasti D’Autunno.
